Otherwise known as calcium magnesium carbonate, Dolomite occurs as atype of limestone. It is widely used in industry and horticulture.Dolomite will supply calcium and magnesium to your soil, and willincrease the alkalinity (raise pH) of soils. Add small amounts ofdolomite to worm farms and compost piles to counteract acidity.
PHtesting is recommended to ascertain the correct amount of a liming agentto be applied to the soil. Adding dolomite to already alkaline soilswill result in nutrient deficiencies in plants.
To raise the pH of thetop 100mm of soil, use dolomite at a rate of 150gms/m2 in sandy soil,more in heavier soils. It is better to add a little often rather thanone large dose.
